BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: At Sherman Lake YMCA Camps, campers experience the power of living through HCRR (Hick-er). The Y's four core values - Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility - are emphasized in each camp program. Through discovery of the great outdoors, skill development and guidance in the importance of building healthy relationships, campers leave with a sense of achievement, belonging, confidence and courage to try new things.
SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: Sherman Lake YMCA is the host site for MDA Camp of SW Michigan and also Camp Discovery, of the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan. We believe in Inclusion for our special needs campers and will work with parents to provide the best experience.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Fine Arts/Crafts, Academics, Video/Filmmaking/Photography, Dance, Theater, Music/Band, Science, Technology, Swimming, Waterfront/Aquatics, Sailing, Horses/Equestrian, Team Sports, Adventure, Travel, Wilderness/Nature, and more. Specialty Camps: LARP Quest, Culinary Camp, Thrills & Chills, Wet & Wild Water Sports, Gilmore Piano Camp, Lights, Camera, Action, Dance, Dance Revolution, Weird Science.
CAMP LOCATION: Located in SW Michigan just minutes north of I94 halfway between Detroit and Chicago. 360 acres of woodlands on the shores of Sherman Lake - explore our state-of-the-art facilities while enjoying a peaceful setting perfect for a camp adventure.
CAMP FACILITIES: 18 modern cabins, indoor recreation center with swimming pool, climbing wall, high ropes course, stage, outdoor courts, amphitheater, lake with 2 swimming beaches and boating - off-site riverfront outpost for teen adventures.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Recipient of the Eleanor P Eells award for program excellence by the American Camp Association. Campers experience the power of living through HCRR (Hick-er). Through discovery of the great outdoors, skills development and guidance in the importance of building health relationships, campers leave with a renewed sense of self.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We offer 2-week programs in High School Leadership Development and also Counselor In Training, Wrangler in Training and Lifeguard In Training programs.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Sherman Lake YMCA Camp is seeking well-qualified Camp Counselors, Horse Barn Coordinator, Wranglers, Lifeguards, Summer Health Officer and Summer Camp Specialist positions. Summer positions available in day camp, resident camp and high school leadership programs. Candidates must be able to role model honesty, caring, respect and responsibility through actions and words.
Serving 2,000 campers in day, resident and high school leadership programs each summer. Day camp counselors must be high school graduates, resident camp counselors must be one year post high school and leadership candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
Competitive summer camp salaries, on-site housing available and summer YMCA gym membership at Sherman Lake YMCA included.
