After many years of doing "Grandma Camp" on her 20 acres of woodlands, the desire grew to create a Christian camp experience for other children. "Grandma" Bernice Duke approached her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff & Beki Duke, with a dream to sell the homestead the family had owned since 1965, purchase the Old Trout Lake School, and start a camp.

We program our own camps during the summer. We specialize in small, hands-on camps with a strong emphasis on relationships. Please check our website for more info. Camp offered are: Prime Camp, Ultimate Kids’ Camp, Day Camps, G.I.R.L.’s Camp, Man Camp, High School Camp, Adventure Camps, Family Campout and Grand Camp.

VIEW CAMP PHOTO

CAMP LOCATION: We are located on the campus of The Madeira School, overlooking the Potomac River. On Thursday nights, we camp out at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, VA.

Daily transportation is provided by our fleet of purple buses, with stops at Bailey's Crossroads, Yorktown High School, West Falls Church metro, Dulles Town Center, Reston's Plaza America, Wolftrap, Friendship Heights metro, McLean Shopping Center, Forest Glen metro, and Pyle Middle School.

CAMP FACILITIES: Camp takes place outside, with a break for lunch overlooking the river. Indoor classrooms are available as rain/heat spaces. Thursday night campouts take place at a local lakeside campsite; we pitch tents and cook over a fire. Performances take place in a variety of theaters, camps, schools, and other venues, culminating in a final performance festival in our own amphitheater.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: At Traveling Players Ensemble’s camp, small troupes of actors are carefully guided by professional theatre artists to perform in outdoor amphitheaters. Our program reflects the origins of theatre, when troupes of actors roamed the ancient and medieval countryside, relying on the barest props and boldest imagination to convey their art. Each session culminates in a fully mounted and designed performance which tours to several locations, thereby cultivating stronger, more adaptable and capable artists and individuals.

Traveling Players emphasizes a meaningful engagement with nature. Our unique day camp (Monday-Friday) features a campout every Thursday—when performers learn Leave No Trace camping techniques, to pitch tents and cook outdoors. In their final week, teens camp out close to their performance site—giving them the experience of wandering entertainers who carry their dinner, tent and props in their trusty pack. As artists and backpackers, campers learn self-reliance and creative problem solving, and gain an appreciation of challenges and beauty.

Founding Artistic Director Jeanne Harrison has taught for The Folger Shakespeare Library, Catholic University, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Loyola University (MD), The Chapin School (NYC) and Interlochen Center for the Arts (MI), where she directed the Shakespeare program. Jeanne has worked in camping for 28 years, directed two other camps, is a certified Camp Director (American Camping Association), Wilderness First Responder (SOLO), and an Instructor with the American Red Cross. Jeanne has also served as a judge for the Helen Hayes Awards.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: "Building Characters One Child at a Time"

Stage Kids WA develops and nurtures young people's potential through classes, workshops and performances. Our professional staff encourages creativity and delivers quality performing arts training for both the beginner and the experienced performer. Fun is had by all as we emphasize life skills such as responsibility, confidence, teamwork and creating new friendships.

Stage Kids CA was recently honored as "Best family-friendly musical" for their holiday production of "Bah Humbug".

Often, the success of a show is determined by the number of tickets sold or the overall presentation. To us, the process is just as important (if not MORE important!) than the performance, so we focus on challenging and growing the children. After all, that's what makes a better show...theater skills are really life skills!

Stage Kids WA is a program of the Campbell Children's Theater Foundation - tax exempt under IRS 501(c)(3)

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Stage Kids offers year-round after school musical theater classes and seasonal productions in addition to summer camps.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Road Less Traveled as an organization was founded by Jim and Donna Stein in 1991, and has been successfully running safe, exciting, life-changing trips for teens ever since. Both Jim and Donna are still the current directors, and are integrally involved in every single aspect of the company. In the summer, they are on call 24/7, available both to parents as well as to our leaders in the field.

We are an ACA accredited organization with an impeccable track record. We believe in the process of accreditation. It allows us to compare our standards to other professionals in the industry. Our accreditation allows us to follow specific standards related to leader screening including use of application forms, reference checks, personal interviews, work history review, and background checks.

Many years ago, we were the first company serving young adults to require that all leaders have a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) medical certification. WFR training is far more advanced than standard first aid or wilderness first aid. In addition to this certification, we carry extensive first aid kits on all of our programs that include antibiotics and epinephrine. Contents, protocols, and standing orders are reviewed and updated every year by our Medical Director who is an MD.

Since our inception, RLT has been on the cutting edge of technological advances in communication. We began carrying Iridium satellite phones on all of our programs as soon as they were available. Today we continue to carry the latest in emergency communication systems. According to geographic location, programs are equipped with satellite phones, ground-to-air radios, and/or cellular phones providing the possibility of 24-hour access to medical help in case of emergency.

CAMP LOCATION: We are located on Johns Island, a small island just north of San Juan Island, in the northern part of Puget Sound. Our 135-acre property offers open meadows, a pond and marsh, intimate coves and beaches and old-growth forests. Please visit our website for photos and descriptions of our site and program areas.

The bulk of our activities take place outdoors - on the Waterfront, in the Challenge Course, the Archery range, Craft Shop porch or out in the woods exploring our property.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our program is based on creating a community living and learning situation for camper units of the same age or grade. Campers learn to cooperate with and support other members of their peer group, while moving through our program areas as a unit. While we have several free-choice opportunities throughout the session, our campers learn and grow as individuals while working through activities and challenges as a unit.
All of our staff go through a two-week staff training together, preparing program areas, practicing safety procedures, working with equipment and attending important sessions covering topics from working with children to bullying and child-abuse prevention.

Each camper unit has two unit leaders who attend all activities with that unit and provide support for each camper while facilitating team building and group bonding. These unit leaders are in addition to our program teaching staff, allowing our staff:camper ratio to be at least 1:5. Units are schedule to participate in activities week by week, including drama, archery, nature, adobe oven, garden, high and low ropes course elements, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and an endless amount crafts activities.

In addition to our daily programs, all camper units go on overnight camping trips once per week, and beginning at age 13 participate in multi-day outcamp trips. These excursions include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and biking. There are many opportunities for campers of different ages to interact with each other, including all-camp activities in the evenings such as square dances, and special events days.

Our camps and programs are offered locally throughout over 500 communities. The format includes traditional week-long summer day camps and year-round after-school programs that range from 45 minutes to 6 hours in duration, per day. Our progression of camps and programs, led by our expert staff, are generated toward youth looking for a sport introduction or those who want to refine and master their sport-specific skills.

For Detailed Information on ALL of our summer sports camps, please visit our website at Our Camp Website Link: www.skyhawks.com.

Our coaches and site directors make a significant difference to your childs on-field experience. Chosen for their strong personal character, responsibility, and capacity to effectively communicate sports skills to youth, our staff will make the extra effort every time to ensure that your children have the best on-field/court experience, emphasize teamwork, and learn life skills through sports. Our staff are required to complete our extensive certification process.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Skyhawks Sports Camps are SAFETY FOCUSED!

At Skyhawks we go the extra mile to focus on safety, and we have a long-standing proven safety track record and processes to prove it. For example, all Skyhawks Sports camps start and end with our unique safety process called Gate System and Parking Lot Duty. This process is where coaches come and greet both parents and campers in the parking lot when parents pull up to drop off their children.

Our staff guide the kids onto the field/court and out of harms way by funneling them into our gate system. Eye contact is maintained from each one of our staff members until the kids make it onto the field/court where they are grouped by age. This efficient process ensures safety. Additionally, it develops a level of trust between parent, coach, and child that ultimately leads to a fun and skill-focused camp for youth.
